Who Was BABA AMTE ?

Murlidhar Devidas Amte, Popularly known as BABA AMTE, was born on 26 December 1914. He was an Indian Social worker and Social Activist Known particularly for his work for the rehabilitation and empowerment of people suffering from leprosy.

Dedicated Works 
 Trained in law, he developed a successful legal practice at wardha. He soon got involved in the Indian Struggle for Freedom from the British Raj and Started acting as defense lawyer for leaders involved with the Indian freedom movement whom the British authorities had imprisoned in 1942 during the Quit India Movement. He spent some time at Sevagram Ashram started by Mahatma Gandhi and became a follower of Gandhism for the rest of his life. 
Amte founded three Ashrams for treatment and rehabilition of leprosy patients, disabled people and people from marginalized sections of the society in Maharashtra. On 15 Aug 1949, he Started a hospital in Anandvan under a tree. In 1973, amte founded the LOk Biradari Prakalp to work for the Madia Gond Tribal people of Godchiroli District. 
Amte Devoted his life to many other social causes, most notably the knit India movement to raise public awareness on the importance of ecological balance, wildlife preservation and the Narmada Bachao Andolan. 

Early life

Baba Amte was born to Mr. Devidas Amte and Mrs. Laxmibai Amte in the city of Hinganghat in Wardha District of Maharashtra on 26 Dec 1914 into a wealthy family. His father was a British Government officer working for the district administration and revenue collection departments. Mulridhar had acquired his nickname Baba in his childhood.

डॉ मुरलीधर देवीदास आमटे जो की बाबा आमटे के नाम से ख्यात हैं भारत के प्रमुख व् सम्मानित समाजसेवी थे समाज से परित्यक्त लोगों और कुष्ठ रोगियों के लिए उन्होंने अनेक आश्रमों और समुदाय की स्थापना की इनमे चंद्रपुर महाराष्ट्र स्थित आनंदवन का नाम प्रसिद्ध है  इसके अलावा आमटे ने अनेक अन्य सामाजिक कार्यों जिनमे वन्य जीवन संरक्षण तथा नर्मदा बचाओ आंदोलन प्रमुख हैं , 9 फरवरी 2008 को बाबा का 94 साल की आयु में चंद्रपुर जिले के वड़ोरा स्थित अपने निवास में निधन हो गया।
